5 simple changes to get better social media results

How is your social media marketing working for you?

If you are struggling or finding that your social media efforts are not paying off for you like you would like, then its time to make some changes.

Here are five simple things you can do to get better results.

1. Focus on one social media site for the next 90 days. This may seem too simple but the reality is that sometimes a lack of focus can be affecting your ability to make money and grow your business with social media.

2. Focus on building your list with social media. Are your social media activities generating at least five new signups to your email list a day? If not, then you are not giving your contacts and other people you meet via social media enough chances to join your list.

3. Do some research. What is your target market and those you come in contact with via social media looking for? Are they looking to buy what you are selling? If not, these is a major problem and you need to find ways to change your offerings to match what those people you meet through social media are looking for and what they will pay for?

4. Are you offering too much information? Yes, it is possible that you could be offering too much. By overwhelming people with too much information or trying to hard to sell people you can be turning them off and this can have drastic effects on your social media marketing results.

5. What can you change or do differently? Make a list of all of the things you could try that might work better for you and then commit to working on one of them. Some examples include: marketing more on facebook with a fan page instead of your profile, using more than one twitter account, combining two blogs into one, changing one of your websites into a blog, etc.

Best SEO Plugins for WordPress

  • Platinum SEO Pack – Optimizes your WordPress blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization).
  • Meta Robots WordPress plugin – There’s no easy way to add meta robots tags to WordPress pages, unless of course, when you install this plugin.
  • Google XML Sitemaps – This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.
  • HeadSpace2 SEO – HeadSpace2 is an all-in-one meta-data manager that allows you to fine-tune the SEO potential of your site.
  • SEO Friendly Images – SEO Friendly Images is a WordPress optimization plugin which automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes. If your images do not have ALT and TITLE already set, SEO Friendly Images will add them according the options you set. Additionally this makes the post W3C/xHTML valid as well.

ALT attribute is important part of search engine optimization. It describes your image to search engine and when a user searches for a certain image this is a key determining factor for a match.

TITLE attribute play lesser role but is important for visitors as this text will automatically appear in the tooltip when mouse is over the image.

  • SEO No Duplicate – This simple plugin helps you easily tell the search engine bots the preferred version of a page by specifying the canonical properly within your head tag.

Why would you do such a thing? Simply because many black-hat SEO folks abuse duplicate content to gain search ranking and search engine try really hard to detect and penalize them. The last thing you want to do is present yourself as an SEO spammer to search engines.

  • SEO Title Tag – Title tags are arguably the most important of the on-page factors for search engine optimization (”SEO”). It blows my mind how post titles are also used as title tags by WordPress, considering that post titles should be catchy, pithy, and short-and-sweet; whereas title tags should incorporate synonyms and alternate phrases to capture additional search visibility.

Now, thankfully, there is a solution, allowing you to decouple post titles from title tags. Introducing… the SEO Title Tag WordPress plugin.

SEO Title Tag makes is dead-easy to optimize the title tags across your WordPress-powered blog or website. Not just your posts, not just your home page, but any and every title tag on your site! If this plugin, along with a few hours of keyword research and copywriting of optimized titles, doesn’t make a significant impact on your search traffic, you’re doing something wrong!

  • Google XML Sitemaps – This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. • Simple Tags – Simple Tags is the successor of Simple Tagging Plugin This is THE perfect tool to manage perfeclty your WP 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 and 2.8 tags

SEO Tips for your WordPress Blog

via SEO Tips for your WordPress Blog | Your Daily Guide.

A lot of blogs are using wordpress because it is one of the most seo-friendly Content Management System (CMS). So here i am going to list some seo tips to improve your wordpress blog. These are important things to get your wordpress blog optimized. It will help you gain more traffic and rank better in search engines like google, yahoo, msn, etc.

  • Install WordPress Plugins
You can get a lot of free plugins online and they will help a lot in optimizing your blog. You can view an article of mine that lists the Best SEO Plugins for WordPress.
  • Optimize permalinks
The default permalink is not seo-friendly and should be changed right away. For me, the most seo-friendly would be to use /%postname%/ which will make something like this http://yourdailyguide.org/ways-to-increase-link-popularity/ . You can change your permalink by going to Settings >> Permalinks and choose custom structure and input /%postname%/ .
  • Optimize page titles
Page titles are the most important in your single page and should be placed between h1 tags. Titles should be short but keyword-rich.
  • Remove hyperlink of the Title of your single posts
I saw a lot of blogs that hyperlinks the title of their single posts and this is no longer needed since it will still link on the same page. You can easily edit it at Presentation and edit the single.php file.
  • Validate your code
There are a lot of tools online that you can use to validate your code. By validating your code, it will help search engines to crawl your site easier. This requires knowledge in web design to fix these codes so if you can’t do it, you can hire a web developer to do it for you. I am using this tool to validate my code.
  • Add Meta Keywords and Description
Always add meta keywords and description to your blogs because it will help the search engines to identify what kind of blog you have. Choose your keywords wisely (means that you choose keywords that are not so competitive but has a good search volume).
  • Deep-Linking your posts
Deep-linking is where a post of yours links to another related post of yours. Choose the keywords to hyperlink wisely, choose the one that fits most to the post that you’ll be linking.

The Best and Only Backlink SEO Strategy you should be using for your website!

The Best and Only Backlink SEO Strategy you should be using for your website!

via The Best and Only Backlink SEO Strategy you should be using for your website!.

A Short Word About Backlinks:
Backlinks are integral to every aspect of your internet marketing strategy whether it be articles, videos, link exchanges, etc. You need backlinks.

In my experience I’ve found that if you’re going to focus your backlink campaign energy on anything then focus on what has the greatest impact.

This has to be arguably
1)Hubpages (Squidoo, Hubpages.com, etc)
2)Articles (Zimbio,Ezine,GoArticles) and
3)Blog comments (from relevant blogs)

Wait a minute!
What about Social Bookmarking? Well bookmarks are considered “soft links” and although they give short bursts of traffic they provide real long-term value for search engine rankings. Make them less than 20% of your total website backlinks or you may get penalized.

1) Hubpages – You only need to focus on two main sites. Squidoo(http://www.squidoo.com) and Hubpages (http://www.hubpages.com). Build out a really in-depth, hub/lens of value and indiscreetly point your lens back to your site. Keep updating your hubpage/lens as time moves on to keep it fresh. You will be rewarded and this type of link is invaluable in the long-run

2) Articles – You only need to focus on three main sites. Ezinearticles (http://www.ezinearticles.com), Zimbio (http://www.zimbio.com) and GoArticles (http://www.goarticles.com). Ezine gives more long-lasting link juice while GoArticles is good for a quicker short-burst items such as news stories and celebrity gossip. There are other great article sites, but you’re a successful webCEO so you’re BUSY right?!! Like I said you only have a limited amout of time so spend it wisely and NO duplicate content — reword if you’re really lazy.

3) Comments – This is where I see many young marketers go wrong. They waste there time on low PR, random topic blogs. This may even hurt your ranking. Listen up! You only want backlinks from your site from High PR, High Authority blogs such as edu blogs. There are only a couple out there but use a free tool like EduBlogFinder (http://http://www.edublogfinder.com) and combine it with Seoquake. Only leave meaningful comments so they wont get deleted on edu blogs of PR3 or above. You only need 3 of these a day. That’s it!

I’d love to see someone do a case study and only follow this exact strategy on a non-ranked website of 10 pages or more. I assure you that it will be ranked top 10 for a few long-tail keywords in less than month. Prove me wrong!

Anyone disagree?
Happy SEOing guys?

Thank you

SEO Plan

seopyramidJohn Wooden, the greatest basketball coach ever, never talked to his teams about winning. He talked to them about preparation and about the process of becoming a great team.

Wooden’s philosophy on coaching (and life) is summed up in the “Pyramid of Success,” which beats the tail off all that Self-Help Guru junk you see peddled in books, on blogs, on daytime chat shows, and on late night TV. I was lucky to hear Coach Wooden speak about the Pyramid of Success while I was a student at Pepperdine University; to this day, it’s one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. (Seriously, if you don’t know what his Pyramid of Success is, visit CoachJohnWooden.com.)

What’s all this have to do with SEO and online marketing? Well, the best SEOs don’t talk to their clients about rankings; they talk about the process of making great web sites that earn traffic and convert visitors into customers. They talk about the process of creating great content that attracts links like bees to honey.

I would never compare myself to John Wooden, but I do like teaching others about online marketing. So, with that in mind, and inspired by the great coach, here is the….

14 Modern SEO Best Practices for 2009

SEOMoz just posted a great list of 14 best practices for modern SEO that they are using with their consulting clients. Some real interesting tips, like the lack of importance of H1 tags and  meta keywords.

Keep reading for review of the 14, with some notes about possible Joomla Joomla implications.

You can read more about these at SEOMoz: SEO Best Practices

Title Tag Format

Primary Keyword – Secondary Keywords | Brand
Or
Brand Name | Primary Keyword and Secondary Keywords

Turn on core title tag and also install SEF Title Prefix and Suffix

The Usefulness of H1 Tags

H1s are important for users but not necessarily for search engines anymore.

Don’t get daft about where the H1 is appearing, could be site title, could be logo, could be articles. Just ensure you have logical, semantic order.

The Usefulness of Nofollow

We recommend using rel= for thwarting would be spammers of user generated content. We also recommend using it as an incentive for creating active users. (At SEOmoz, we remove the nofollow of profile links after the user has earned 100 mozPoints.)

We DO NOT recommend using nofollow for PageRank sculpting anymore.

Comment developers taking note? This would be a great feature, have links be no follow until people had commented X times.

The Usefulness of the Canonical Tag

The canonical tag is still young and is only useful as a hint to the search engines to prevent duplicate content. It is not the silver bullet that webmasters are looking for. (nor the droids for that matter)

If you must, stick it in your Joomla template index.php. I’m not going to bother.

The Use of Alt text with Images

We recommend including alt text for all images on all publicly accessible pages. We also suggest adding images with good alt text to pages targeting competitive rankings.

Remember something called accessibility? You should be doing this anyway. If you are not, go read Usability, Accessibility, Web Standards, SEO and You.

The Use of the Meta Keywords tag

If it is not a problem to let your competitors know your keywords and you are trying to rank highly in Yahoo, the Meta Keywords tag can be useful. Note: This is different from what we have recommend in the past.

Read my Joomla book? You’ll see me recommend using this for the Related Article module rather than SEO .

The Use of Parameter Driven URLs (I.E. www.example.com/product?param=1&param=2)

We don’t recommend using them. If they are absolutely necessary (Due to something like an established CMS configuration) we recommend no more than 2 parameters.

Turn on core SEF, and don’t bother with the 3rd party SEF extensions.

The Usefulness of Footer Links

Use footer links sparingly. We recommend no more than 25 relevant internal navigational links.

Link schemes = bad

The Use of Javascript and Flash on Websites

We do not recommend using Javascript or Flash for any navigation important to search engines.

Make sure you are using a Joomla Joomla template with pure CSS for menus.

The Use of 301 Redirects

We recommend 301 redirects as the best way to redirect webpages but warn that they do have disadvantages.

Have you read Get Free Pagerank for your Joomla Website ?

Blocking pages from Search Engines

The Meta Robots tag (noindex, follow) is generally a better option than robots.txt. Robots.txt files are useful but should be used sparingly and only if a meta robots tag is not an option.

Make sure you have read How to Optimize Images in Joomla

Google Search Wiki’s Affect on Rankings

We don’t recommend spending any time or resources on search wiki.

The Affect of Negative Links from “Bad Link Neighborhoods”

Link neighborhoods are a real thing but the affect of links from bad neighborhoods on good neighborhoods is minimal if the links are not reciprocal.

The Importance of Traffic on Rankings

The metric of visitors to a given site is not used to help determine rankings.

There you have it. Some interesting implications for SEO on Joomla websites.
