Create Your Own Facebook Direct Profile URL
The Profile Web Address application (it’s actual application name is unnecessarily long) lets you create a direct link to your profile, with any name you choose. This application comes from the same people that created the “Surveys, Petitions, Votes, Polls & Quizes” Facebook app.
Just like with MySpace (
), you can now pick a URL suffix to create a somewhat shortened, easy-to-remember web address that can be sent out to friends or placed on websites, taking them directly to your Facebook (
) profile. The URL you’ll be able to use will look like any of these three options:
http://profile.to/AnyNameYouChoose/
www.profile.to/AnyNameYouChoose
http://apps.facebook.com/profiles/AnyNameYouChoose/
Of course, the regular privacy settings apply. So a user will need to be logged in in order to access your profile page using any of these links.
Username selection is now live at http://www.facebook.com/username/. Remember, choosing a username is optional and will give you a distinct Web address for your profile. It will not change the name that appears on your profile, in search or elsewhere on the site.
